Dear Parents and Carers
This week we celebrated St.Patrick's day by wearing something green.  We watched some video clips of 'Riverdance' and some other Irish dancers.  Children in Reception class really enjoyed having a go at dancing in the style of 'Riverdance'.

The Movement Mat

Dear Parents and Carers

Hello everyone! Here is a picture of our much loved movement mat.

During our half term holiday, why not make your own movement area at home.  All you need is a little space and your body.  See how many different ways you can move - quickly, slowly, to music, without music, on your tummy, on your back, lying down, standing up, the list could go on and on. Get everybody in your family involved.  So this half term holiday let's keep moving and keep happy and healthy.

That's all for now, enjoy your holiday.

From Miss Maher.

Dear Parents and Carers

This week in Reception we have been listening to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.  Just click on the link below to hear the story.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/misc/stories/jackandthebeanstalk/

As the fierce giant lived in a castle at the top of the beanstalk, we have been looking at castles.
We have been using information books to find out facts about castles.
Here are some pictures of castles for you and your child to look at and talk about together.

That's all for now.  Have fun finding out about castles!

Writing a list

Dear Parents and Carers

This week in Reception class we have been making chocolate rice krispies cakes. Delicious!
This provided a great opportunity for the children to write a list.  We made a list of all the things you need to make the cakes.  This week at home why not have a go at writing a list.  For example a list of all your favourite toys, favourite foods, or your friends at school.
Show your child your shopping list or a list of things you have to do.

That's all for now.  Have fun writing lists.

Speech Bubbles

Dear Parents and Carers

Today we have been writing speech bubbles for characters in our favourite traditional tales.  The children have remembered so many different things that the characters say!
Have a look at the cbeebies website for stories
www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies

Click on storytime, than select fairytales from the list on the left of your screen.

You will find tales you know well and some new ones!  Have fun reading them together and get lots of ideas for making your own speech bubbles.
That's all for now.

We're going on a bear Hunt!

Dear Parents and Carers

This week we have been to the Town Hall Theatre in Birmingham city centre.  We enjoyed a fantastic performance of Michael Rosen's 'We're going on a bear hunt'.  This is a story which is familiar to all the children, so they were able to join in with actions and songs related to the book.  If you would like to take a look at the trailer online, go to www.bearhuntlive.com

Our trip to the theatre has produced some lovely writing and illustrations by the children, please talk to them about this.

Thank you to parents who have sent in beautiful baptism photos, and for those of you who haven't yet, please do send them in.

That's all for now, goodbye from

The Feast of the Epiphany

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all!
This week in Reception we are learning about the feast of the Epiphany, the very special time when the three wise men travelled from afar to see the new born king in a stable in Bethlehem.

This half term our topic is 'Traditional tales'. We will be reading, role-playing and learning through stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk.  Share these stories at home with your child.

You can listen to the story of Goldilocks on line :
www.bbc.co.uk/wales/snapdragon/yesflash/story.htm

Also this half term some Reception pupils and parents will be invited to an after school club.  Every child will be invited in turn, however it may not be your child's turn this half term as we will only invite groups of ten at a time. When it is your turn you will receive a letter explaining what is happening.

Next week Reception are visiting the theatre to see a production of
'We're going on a Bear Hunt'. Please make sure you have returned the consent form and money by next Tuesday 11th January.

And finally a very special 'Thank you'  from Miss Maher, Mrs Jennens-Bull and Miss Barnes for all the lovely Christmas cards and gifts we received before the holidays.

Bye for now

Miss Maher.
