Dear Parents/Carers
Now that the children are beginning to settle into their new classroom and are getting to know their new friends, here are a few pointers about things that the children will be learning at school.
Our topic at the moment is Families.
We have started listening to stories about different families.
This week we have been reading 'Five minutes peace' by Shirley Hughes and we have got to know the 'Large family' through this wonderful story.
We have talked about fun at bathtimes and toys that childeren like to take into the bath.
At home you could talk about the different members of your family, look at family photographs, and talk about the sorts of things your family likes to do together.
In class we have displayed photographs taken at the parent and child interviews last term. These photographs show some of the members of our families.
Our R.E. topic is 'Creation', children have listened to the story of how God created our beautiful world from the 'Beginner's Bible'. All the children have really enjoyed
drawing pictures of things that God created.
At home you could talk to your child about the things that they can remember from the story of creation, ask them to re-tell the story to you.
This week we have been talking about our own gifts from God. We have found out that we are good at helping others, climbing, cycling, colouring in, building, using our imagination, running, painting and so much more!
We will be saying 'Thank you' to God in a special way for these wonderful gifts.
All the pupils now have a phonics book in their school bag, please remember to send this into school everyday. Ask your child to show you the action to match each sound and sing the accompanying song. This is a simple but very effective way to help children recognise letter sounds.
Now is the time to play I spy with the sounds that the children have been practising at school.
Thank you for reading the Reception blog, I hope you have lots of fun at home finding out what your special gifts are!
Miss Maher
